On August 10th of this year, Alastair Gillespie (currently at Sir Winston Churchill) and myself (currently at A.N. Myer) will be competing at the world's first Model United Nations conference hosted by the United Nations. The four-day event, known as the United Nations International Model United Nations, is to be held at the UN Headquarters in New York and is open to all university students around the world. Such foreign schools that will be attending the conference include Hong Kong University, the Ghana Institute of Journalism, and the London School of Economics.
The international nature of this competition immediately caught the attention of Alastair and I who have been avid Model UN debaters since grade nine. And not only will the two of us be competing against experienced university students; but we have been assigned one of the conferences most eminent delegations: the United States of America in the Security Council. As representatives of such an influential nation in the global community, we eagerly anticipate the challenge that awaits us.
