COWAC Goes Global!

By Mike Keenan

As many are aware, one of the benefits of installing a counter device on one's web site is that it provides valuable information concerning hits, when people search and generally where they are from.

For example, our provider tells us that we are currently averaging 200 hits per day. Aside from the obvious interest in the United States and Canada, we are seeing remarkable interest from other countries. Thus far, after the above, Mexico is in the lead for number of hits on our site. We are not sure if this is attributable in part to our translation software that we have installed on our splash page. Let us know if this helps! We would like to include more languages, and are searching for appropriate software. Again, let us know if there are some good ones out there. It would be nice to employ all five official UN languages.

After Mexico, in order of rank, we have seen traffic from the following countries:

Slovakia (Slovak Republic) (.SK), Netherlands (.NL), Singapore (.SG), Australia (.AU), Germany (.DE), New Zealand (.NZ), Brazil (.BR), Japan (.JP), Ireland (.IE), Saudi Arabia (.SA), Jordan (.JO), Greece (.GR), Thailand (.TH), Ghana (.GH), China (.CN), Norway (.NO), Portugal (.PT), Croatia (.HR), Denmark (.DK), France (.FR), Belgium (.BE), Trinidad and Tobago (.TT).

This is pretty exciting data. One might imagine the huge traffic if China, boasting one-quarter of the world's population, gets on to COWAC.

Wednesdays followed by Thursdays and Mondays are the most popular days for searches on our site. Only 8% of our searches take place on Saturday. Thank goodness, people have a social life! 10 p.m. to midnight is the most popular timeframe within which to search. The undisputed champion search engine that accounts for 49% of our hits is Yahoo.

Keep us advised if there is something that we can do to make searching easier in your country. And thanks for your global interest!
