Memories of England

Summerhill - a Georgian Mansion at Kingswood
English Mansion

The Niagara leadership group was asked to briefly report what they learned and appreciated during the recent Bath MUN and subsequent two-day visit in London. Here is a response by Andrea Kelland of Grimsby District Secondary School:

I was impressed by the generous hospitality and concern demonstrated by our Bath house hosts, which made our stay all the more enjoyable.
I learned that it pays to be open, friendly and perhaps a bit "young at heart" to truly enjoy travelling abroad. I was able to make new friends and have some adventures.
I discovered that if you are no longer on the map, you are probably on the wrong London bus.
No matter what, you should always PACK LIGHT!!
I am all the more grateful for our "Canadian" method of debate, especially after spending two hours waiting (in vain) to be recognized in the GA.
I was surprised at the amount of attention GM foods (my debate topic) was given in the English media, supermarket labeling and advertising.
There are MANY creative ways to phrase a statement or commentary as a question, and the British debaters know them all.
Everyone should visit Europe at least once in their lifetime, if only to experience its amazing scenery and history.
In England, there is no such thing as a "power shower".
The culture difference between North America and England is not that great. Most of the teenage mindset that I encountered was quite familiar.
"Cheers" means thanks, and "Take away" means food to go.
And finally...taking this trip was the best decision I made this year. Not only was I able to strengthen friendships, but I was able to relax and have some fun.
